Network Event Viewer - Event Log Analysis

7 years ago when Network Event Viewer was first envisioned our primary goal was to create an analysis tool that could merge multiple logs into a single view. This functionality remains as an invaluable tool when troubleshooting and auditing applications and user actions. Since then we have added functionality that enables System Administrators to more easily find, flag, and comment on critical entries.

Complex Filters

Many event logs contain hundreds of thousands of entries. Network Event Viewer's powerful filtering searches through consolidated event logs and allows you to pinpoint events of interest or remove noise. Create both easy to implement simple filters as well as and complex filters. Complex filtering allows for AND, OR, NOT, and multi level criteria and includes support for regular expression driven filter criteria.

Flags and Notes

In many cases, users may want to flag an entry for later review. The event viewer enables users to simply click on an entry and flag it in much the same way popular email clients work. Per user requests, a notes field was recently added enabling users to save comments with each entry. Using simple filters, users can search and view all flagged entries.

The Data Component

Unlike the Windows Event Viewer, the data component of each event log entry can be displayed in HEX, ASCII, or Unicode format.

Scheduled Reports

Network Event Viewer enables users to data mine already downloaded logs (consolidated logs) and create various types of reports on-demand or on a scheduled frequency. For example, users can receive a daily report that contains a list of all failed login attempts to their domain controllers for the last 24 hours. Reports contain specific computers, logs, and filtered entries of interest automating the data mining process. Once configured, reports enable users to open Network Event Viewer and with just a single click, view specific logs and entries of interest. When automatically generated, reports can be emailed and output to HTML. Email report content is fully customizable through our HTML email templates.
