SMART Disk Monitor
Directory Size Monitor

SMART Disk Monitor includes a directory size monitoring tool. When a monitored directory reaches a specified size, an email alert is fired. The directory monitor can also be configured to generate CSV and XML reports.

How It Works

The Windows Service polls and recurses each monitored directory. When the directory size crosses the configured threshold an email alert is fired. Email alerts are not sent again until the alert is manually or automatically cleared per a configured timeframe. If configured to export the results to a file, each sub-directory is listed with the corresponding directory size and file count.

In Depth

Unlike the disk monitoring, directory size alerts can independently clear the warning and critical alerts. Independent alert clearing was developed so customers, ISPs specifically, could fire critical alerts at a high frequency while firing warning alerts at a lower frequency.

We have added the ability to select user defined email templates. The templates are HTML based and include tags that SMART Disk Monitor parses and replaces with the appropriate values. A different template may be assigned to each directory if necessary enabling, for example, a customer’s name to be present. This functionality was added in response to ISPs wanting to notify customers of potential quota violations.

System administrators can further fine tune the directory monitor by adding sub-directory exclusion rules.
