Event Log, Syslog and Application Log Consolidation

Log consolidation is an important and often requirement of regulatory compliance such as PCI DSS and HIPAA. By default logs are consolidated to our own binary file format (no database required), however, you also have the option to save log entries to one of the following supported databases:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008, 2005 and 2000
  • MySQL 5.0
  • Oracle 10
  • Native Microsoft Windows Event Log file format (.evtx and .evt)

Real-Time Event, Syslog and Application Log Monitoring

Create powerful complex filters that support AND, OR, NOT, and multi level criteria as well as regular expression driven filter criteria then get notified immediately when a specific message is received, when a duplicate message is received or when an expected message is not received. For example:

  • Get notified when a database backup fails.
  • Get notified when an error occurs 3 times within an hour.
  • Get notified when an expected successful database backup completion message is not received.

Maintenance Window Support

If you have scheduled maintenance windows you don't want to receive alerts during, Server Manager can optionally shutdown specific log monitors or, if monitoring for duplicate messages, suspend alerting while continuing to scan for duplicates.

Log Management

Computers and devices typically log 100s of thousands of entries every day potentially requiring large storage requirements. To minimize storage requirements and maintain application performance, Server Manager automatically truncates consolidation tables or files once a week. If compliance regulations require you to save logs for a long period of time, Server Manager can be configured to automatically move consolidated log entries to an archive database.

Log Viewer

Our log viewer enables you to:

  • Merge and view multiple logs within a single view
  • Preview messages
  • Group entries by any columns, such as Source or Facility
  • Hide duplicate entries
  • Filter by priority, for example hide Debug and Information messages
